Now that Viperlib is a success, we wish to utilise the potential of the site further by constructing value-added “tutorials”, which will be of benefit to students, lecturers and researchers in vision science.

The new project is using the Viperlib database and new material to construct tutorials—sequences that address specific questions or introduce specific topics—targeted at undergraduate or postgraduate level. We want to create tutorials that comprise several linked screens of information on specific subjects.

For example, tutorials on colour vision could answer questions such as:

  • How do we know we have 3 cone-types in the human retina?
  • What is the genetic basis of colour-blindness?
  • What mechanisms underlie colour constancy?
  • How is colour encoded in extra-striate cortex?

These presentations are downloadable from this site, and it will be possible for the user to edit and alter the materials (providing acknowledgement of the original author is made).

If you would like to contribute to this venture, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Of course, we would like you to donate tutorials for free, but we do have (very) limited funds available to pay for your contribution. (If you can point us in the direction of likely sources of further funding, do let us know!)

(This venture may appeal particularly to graduate or research students, who typically have an abundance of knowledge, enthusiasm and debt.)
